Mental Health

I've published and deleted this post a few times. It makes me very uneasy having it up for anyone to read. I don't typically discuss my experiences with mental illness with people I don't know, but I wrote it in hopes it will help others that may be suffering and go towards putting an end to the stigma attached to mental illness. It may not help anybody, I don't know. I'll probably take it down again one of these days. I’ve been fighting depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts nearly all of my life. I first felt something ‘wrong’ in my head when I was nine years old, although at the time (and for many years afterwards) I didn’t know what ‘it’ was. I didn’t have a label for it. I would suddenly feel sad or scared for no reason. I was frozen with fear and confusion much of the time and I couldn’t understand how everyone else around me could be so happy. 'Paper Vernacular'

In a sequential art show in Joplin, MO at the Spiva Center for the Arts. 'Paper Vernacular', with Emi Gennis and Cole Closser. Opening this weekend, reception is Friday evening (January 5th). I won't be able to attend, fighting a strep infection. It isn't much fun, but it did yield this artist's statement.

Nod Away, Volume II: Progress Report, Etc.

Wrapped up work on 'Nod Away, Volume II' for the year. Ended up stopping in the middle of a pretty violent sequence that I'm tempted to see through to completion so it's not nagging at me over the holiday, but I need to spend the last week of the year taking care of all of the stuff I neglected throughout the other fifty-one. Also need to start preparing for the move to the new studio. Ending on a violent note seems fitting for 2017 anyway, I guess. As far as progress on NAV2 goes, it's slow-going, but it's going. I'm also working on the design and a bonus comic for next year's 'Skyscrapers of the Midwest' ten year special addition, and another project (that I mentioned on a social media post a few months back but decided to delete and sit on until there's more progress to report) that's taking up 75% of my headspace, so I'm not able to spend as much time on the book on a weekly basis as I did with V1. I have about 150 pages ...
